My interest in making drawings of plants began after I started collecting
botanical prints from the late nineteenth century. The prints
were initially intended to categorize and label the parts of plant
species. Their detail and visual acuity was fascinating because
of their scientific origin and artistic execution. . . I’m
interested in the life-cycle of the plant- from pod to seedling to
mature flowering plant. In my drawings, the plants take on
a more active, often sinister role as they fight with each other
for visibility, for life.
